Technicians Program
Jules Stein and ASCRS are delighted to offer a one-day program designed specifically for technicians on Saturday, February 7th. Sessions will run from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM and will focus on important issues related to cataract and refractive surgery. This preliminary program is subject to change; please check the website frequently for updates.
This course has been awarded 7.5 A JCAHPO credits.

Educational Objectives
At the conclusion of this program, attendees will be able to:- Describe the advanced phacoemulsification systems being utilized in cataract surgery today
- Compare and contrast 3 high technology IOLs currently available
- Describe the present applications of customized laser refractive surgery and the process for determining the appropriate procedure for each patient
- Discuss the indications and options available for refractive lens exchange patients
- Explain the different types of refractive errors and the methods used to correct them
- Identify appropriate patient screening and testing methods to assist the surgeon in determining which cataract and refractive surgery patients are most likely to achieve optimal results
- Describe the proper techniques necessary to ensure the most accurate visual acuity and functional vision testing for patients considering cataract and refractive surgery
- Describe how to operate the IOL Master to accurately obtain measurements on all patients, including those who have undergone prior refractive or other ocular surgery
- List five possible complications from the LASIK procedure and the measures which can be taken to prevent them
- Discuss the technician’s role in the post-operative course of the patient undergoing refractive IOL surgery
